Welcome to my blog, which primarily focuses on all the video content related to my main site (Sketch With Jess)

Mortal Kombat has been my all-time favorite game ever since its initial release in the 90s. Back when arcades were thriving in the bustling cities, I spent countless hours playing it. Among the plethora of characters, D' Vorah captivated me with her intriguing persona, firmly securing a spot in my top 10 favorites. Inspired by the various skins in the game, I decided to sketch my own rendition of D' Vorah, While creating the artwork, an auspicious moment occurred when a beautiful lighting bug landed gently on my sketch pad, which I took as a sign of good luck. I sincerely hope that everyone enjoys the result of my artistic endeavors and finds my portrayal of D' Vorah as captivating as I do.
Mortal Kombat DVorah, part 2. One of the Youtube comments on part 1 stated I should ink the sketch. Therefore I decided to experiment and use a simple ballpoint pen to ink my version of DVorah. I sincerely hope that everyone enjoys the result of my artistic endeavors with my portrayal of D' Vorah. Killer Instinct, often abbreviated as KI, holds a firm place within my top 5 favorite games to engage with. Among its roster of characters, I consistently gravitate towards embodying the persona of Sadira. Her unique attributes and playstyle not only captivate my interest but have also ignited my creative spark, driving me to conceptualize and sketch my personal interpretation of the enigmatic Sadira from the world of Killer Instinct.
While engrossed in the spectacle of classic boxing matches, I found myself irresistibly inspired to create a traditional sketch featuring a renowned pugilist/boxer. With meticulous strokes, I endeavored to encapsulate the palpable tension exuded by a highly skilled boxer while delivering a powerful uppercut. As the great Mike Tyson once said, "Everyone has a plan till they get punched in the mouth," and I aimed to capture that raw and unforgiving reality through my artwork. I genuinely hope my sketch caught some of the raw power from the uppercut; from this rapid portrayal of the pugilistic art form.

On this day, I decided to take my daily sketch practice back to basics with pencil and paper. I had been spending so much time creating with graphical technical programs and apps that I felt like I was losing touch with the fundamentals of drawing. I watched some older professional comic-book artists using pencil and paper, and I was inspired by their skill and technique. I knew that if I wanted to keep improving my own drawing skills, I needed to stay in touch with the basics. I started by sketching a middle-aged balding man. I wanted to practice expressions, and I knew that character expressions can greatly help to sell a story in your artwork. I experimented with different facial expressions, and I eventually settled on a slight Vulcan expression. I was happy with the results, and I felt like I had learned a lot from this exercise.

Experimentation and creativity are inseparable companions, as exemplified in my latest project – a 3D sculpt procedural endeavor that commenced with a basic child's head mesh in ZBrush. My pursuit of innovation led me to explore the untapped potential of ZBrush's surface tool, utilizing it to project technical images and achieve a remarkably swift transformation into a hard-surface aesthetic. This endeavor was a delicate balancing act, requiring extensive fine-tuning and setting adjustments to attain the desired result, all while avoiding the laborious process of traditional hard-surface sculpting or kitbashing. I'm pleased to report that my experimental approach yielded a resounding success.

In yet another bold experiment, I embarked on the challenging journey of generating hard-surface designs through ZBrush's procedural capabilities. To complete the project, I harnessed the power of Photoshop, weaving together an intricate tapestry from a mosaic of BPR renders obtained in ZBrush. In a reflective moment of self-evaluation, it's possible that I may have indulged a bit too fervently in the minutiae, potentially overloading the visual senses with an abundance of intricate details. Nevertheless, this endeavor served as a valuable crucible of learning, enriching my understanding and expertise in the process.

I'm an avid enthusiast of the iconic 1970's television series, "Lieutenant Detective Columbo." My admiration for the show runs so deep that I find myself revisiting his gripping episodes nearly every night, drawing endless inspiration from the brilliant character portrayed by Peter Falk. Recently, I've taken to sharing my passion with the world through live streaming sessions where I craft bespoke posters dedicated to one of my all-time favorite TV characters, Lieutenant Columbo.
